We are always in need of foster homes. Being a foster is pretty simple. All medical expenses are paid for and support is ongoing. It's suggested that if you already have pets, you have a room in which the foster cat can be kept separated in. A bathroom works well for this purpose. The period for quarantine should be 2 weeks or more. The kitty should have a bed, possibly with a heating pad if you are fostering a kitten, litter pan, food/ water and toys. Some people even use an extra large dog crate for young kittens. It must be large enough for a bed, food, water and litter pan to fit comfortably. Kittens and cats should be interacted with daily to provide socialization and proper stimulation for well balanced development. If you are fostering a dog, the same principals apply. They should be quarantined for 2 weeks. Current pets must be free of illnesses. This is a special concern when fostering kittens and puppies. Their undeveloped immune systems leave them at risk for contracting communicable diseases. Homes with children are encouraged to foster. We provide orientations for families to teach children how to properly handle small pets. Pets are proven to encourage empathy and and foster a sense of responsibility in a child. Please call to set up an appointment with one of our foster program coordinators! 707-460-3470 |
